Gregory Mahler

Gregory Mahler is an Academic Dean Emeritus and Research Professor of Politics at Earlham College. He holds a B.A. from Oberlin College (1972) and M.A./Ph.D. from Duke University (1974/1976). He previously served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor at institutions like Kalamazoo College and Earlham, retiring from full-time administration in 2017 to focus on research and periodic teaching.

His research centers on comparative politics, Israeli/Palestinian governance, and Tibetan nationalism. Notable works include Comparative Politics: Exploring Concepts and Institutions Across Nations (7 editions) and Politics and Government in Israel (4th ed.). Current projects explore Tibetan identity amid Chinese occupation and expatriate communities.

He has lectured globally on federalism, constitutionalism, and Middle Eastern politics, with engagements in over 20 countries. His recent publications address nationalism in the 21st century, U.S. foreign perceptions under Trump, and Palestinian constitutional development.

Grant and advising activities include collaborative research with Earlham students. He contributes to academic organizations like the American Political Science Association and the Palestine Academic Research Consortium.
