Professor Gregory Lip is the Price-Evans Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Liverpool and Director of the Liverpool Centre for Cardiovascular Science. He holds adjunct and distinguished professorships at Aalborg University (Denmark), Seoul National University, Yonsei University, and multiple other international institutions. His clinical practice involves 50% clinical cardiology work focusing on atrial fibrillation and hypertension.
Research Focus: Atrial fibrillation epidemiology, thromboembolism pathophysiology, stroke/bleeding risk assessment (CHA2DS2-VASc & HAS-BLED scores), and ABC pathway implementation. His work has shaped international guidelines (ESC, ACCP) and introduced risk stratification tools used globally. He leads the Liverpool Heart And bRain Project (L-HARP) and Supermarket/Huawei Stroke Study.
Professional Highlights: Over 500 publications, Highly Cited Researcher (2014-2021), 2023 Distinguished Scientist Award, and multiple honorary doctorates. Editor-in-Chief (Thrombosis & Haemostasis) and editorial roles in Circulation, Europace, and others.
Grants & Collaborations: Leads £5.3M NIHR Clinical Research Facility, Wellcome Trust C-GULL cohort, and global networks in China, Denmark, Korea. Current grants include AF screening studies, valproate withdrawal analysis, and post-cardiac surgery AF prediction.
Labs/Teams: Liverpool Centre for Cardiovascular Science (LCCS), a multidisciplinary collaboration between universities and hospitals focused on improving cardiovascular outcomes in the Liverpool City Region.
