Professor Gregory Jackson is a leading academic in comparative management and corporate governance, holding dual appointments as Professor of Human Resource Management and Labor Politics at Freie Universität Berlin since 2010 and as Visiting Professor of Comparative Management at Loughborough University London since 2021. His work bridges economic sociology, institutional theory, and political economy with a focus on corporate governance, CSR, and employment relations.
- PhD in Sociology, Columbia University (2002)
- BA in Sociology and German Literature, University of Wisconsin-Madison (1992)
Research spans four major themes:
- Comparative Employment Relations: Examines how managerial authority and employee motivation are resolved across societies.
- Corporate Governance: Investigates stakeholder representation and institutional advantages in knowledge economies.
- Corporate Social Responsibility: Analyzes business cases for CSR and multinational labor standards.
- Social Inequality: Explores corporate roles in inequality via relational sociology and intersectionality.
Scientific awards include the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS) Decade Award (2008). Research is funded by the German Science Foundation, EU FP7/Horizon 2020, and others. He co-founded the CR Berlin study group and serves on editorial boards of leading journals.
