Gregory H. LeFevre is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Iowa's College of Engineering, where he has been a faculty member since 2016. He is also an Associate Faculty Research Engineer at IIHR—Hydroscience and Engineering and holds researcher positions at multiple interdisciplinary centers, including the Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing, the Center for Global & Regional Environmental Research, the Environmental Health Sciences Research Center, and the Iowa Superfund Research Center.
Education:
- Postdoc, Environmental Engineering and Science, Stanford University, 2015
- PhD, Environmental Engineering, University of Minnesota, 2012
- MS, Environmental Engineering, University of Minnesota, 2009
- BS, Environmental Engineering, Michigan Technological University, 2006
Dr. LeFevre's research centers on environmental engineering and science, with a focus on the biotransformation and fate of emerging contaminants in natural and engineered systems. His work explores bioretention and green stormwater infrastructure, plant-mediated pollutant processes, stormwater quality, water reuse, and the application of high-resolution mass spectrometry for discovering chemical transformation products and pathways. He promotes nature-based solutions for sustainable water management and investigates chemical mixture dynamics in the environment, including pesticides and nonpoint pollutants.
His publications, accessible via Google Scholar, reflect a strong interdisciplinary trend in environmental chemistry, engineering, and sustainability, particularly in the development and evaluation of engineered natural treatment systems for improving water quality. The research spans analytical chemistry, ecological engineering, and public health implications of contaminant exposure.
