Gregory Donovan is an Associate Professor in the Creative Writing Program within the Department of English at Virginia Commonwealth University’s College of Humanities and Sciences. He is a co-founder and senior editor of Blackbird, an online journal of literature and the arts, and co-producer of the documentary film A Late Style of Fire on poet Larry Levis.

Donovan’s creative work explores themes of identity, mythology, and human resilience, often integrating metaphors like labyrinths and cosmology. His research includes modernist and contemporary American/British literature, translation, and digital literary publishing.
His poetry collections Torn from the Sun (2015) and Calling His Children Home (1993) have received critical acclaim, with the latter winning the Devins Award for Poetry. His publications span prestigious journals like TriQuarterly, 32 Poems, and Copper Nickel.
