Gregory DiGirolamo

Gregory DiGirolamo, PhD, is an Adjunct Associate Professor at UMass Chan Medical School within the T.H. Chan School of Medicine. His academic appointments span both the Radiology and Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences departments, reflecting his interdisciplinary research focus. He received a PhD in Psychology from the University of Oregon after completing his BS and MS at Lesley College and University of Oregon respectively.

Dr. DiGirolamo's research bridges cognitive neuroscience and addiction medicine, examining how implicit cognitive processes influence medical imaging interpretation and substance use disorders. His work on 'abnormality gist' in radiology and cognitive control deficits in addiction has produced influential publications in Radiology, Addict Behav, and Drug Alcohol Depend. His recent studies explore non-conscious visual processing in diagnostic radiology (2025) and perceptual learning mechanisms (2023).

His peer-reviewed work spans topics including cocaine-related disorders, opioid addiction, eye movement control, and cognitive neuroscience. Key collaborators include Max Rosen, David Smelson, and Michael Kalman. He contributes to the ICUCLab at UMass Medical School's Radiology department.
