Gregory Brazeal is an Associate Professor at the University of South Dakota School of Law. He specializes in Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Cyber Law, and Law & Humanities, with a focus on rural mass incarceration and digital privacy. His scholarship integrates legal theory with interdisciplinary insights from philosophy, literature, and political economy.

His research spans legal institutionalism, constitutional faith, and the narrative construction of criminality in war literature. Recent articles examine machine subjectivity through Heidegger, discriminatory mass surveillance, and rural criminal justice politics. His book The Hero and the Victim analyzes Iraq War narratives and international humanitarian law.
Brazeal has presented at the Central States Law Schools Association Conference (2025), Law and Rurality Workshop (2024), and AALS Convention (2024). He previously served as a public defender, Forrester Fellow, and U.S. Army Reserve Judge Advocate (Major, 2010-2018).
