Professor Bailey's educational background includes a B.A. from Sonoma State University and an M.F.A. from the University of Hartford (1998). His artistic practice combines technical skill with conceptual depth, creating works that respond honestly to the world around him.
His research interests focus on the interconnectedness of environment and self, utilizing a wide range of materials and imagery. Bailey's work engages with political, social, and cultural commentary through metaphor, often incorporating elements of wit, humor, and irony. He continues to expand his practice through installation art, transforming gallery environments to create immersive experiences.
In the classroom, Bailey balances technical instruction in sculptural processes with fostering students' conceptual development. He teaches foundational and advanced courses including ART 102 (Foundations: Concepts in Three Dimensions), ART 226 (Sculpture Workshop: Construction and Installation), ART 225 (Sculpture Workshop: Mold Making and Casting), and ART 234 (Sculpture Workshop: Beyond the Object). His teaching philosophy emphasizes discovery and maintains a contagious curiosity that spreads from his own practice into his classrooms.
Bailey's studio practice and teaching are deeply connected to the resources of the Cummings Arts Center, which houses specialized facilities including a bronze foundry, wood and metal fabrication equipment, and expansive studio spaces that support his diverse technical approaches to sculpture.
