Gregor von Schweinitz holds dual academic roles as a Research Professor at the Leibniz Institute for Economic Research Halle (IWH) and an Associate Professor of Economics at Corvinus University of Budapest. His research focuses on dynamic macroeconomics, financial market crises, and international economic policy, with a particular emphasis on fiscal policy analysis, credit markets, and monetary policy coordination. von Schweinitz earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Halle-Wittenberg and a Mathematics diploma from TU Munich.
His work bridges theoretical and empirical macroeconomics, addressing topics such as sovereign debt dynamics, credit supply-demand interactions, and the propagation of global economic shocks. Notable contributions include studies on fiscal policy’s impact on bondholder expectations and the role of credit demand in business cycle fluctuations. von Schweinitz has also advised on early-warning systems for financial crises and contributed to policy analysis through Bayesian structural models.
Recipient of the Adam Smith Price for Best Paper (2022), von Schweinitz teaches advanced macroeconomics at Corvinus and previously held roles at Leipzig University, the University of Rostock, and the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. He is affiliated with the Department of Macroeconomics at Corvinus and leads research groups at IWH on volatility, growth, and financial crises.
