Gregor Urbas is an Honorary Associate Professor at the ANU College of Law and a Special Magistrate in the ACT Magistrates Court since 2023. He holds a BA (Hons I), LLB (Hons I), PhD (Symbolic Logic), and is a barrister in the ACT Supreme Court and High Court of Australia. Previously, he served as Associate Professor at the University of Canberra (2013–2017) and Lecturer/Senior Lecturer at ANU (2003–2013). His research focuses on criminal law, cybercrime, technology law, and biometrics in criminal justice. He has authored/co-authored influential works such as Cybercrime: Legislation, Cases and Commentary and Biometrics, Crime and Security, examining legal frameworks for emerging technologies.
Research Interests: Criminal Law, Cybercrime, Technology Law, Biometrics in Criminal Justice, and Evidence Law. Key areas include regulatory responses to social media, AI in law enforcement, and biometric evidence admissibility in courts. His work bridges legal theory and practice, addressing ethical and practical challenges in digital-age criminal justice systems.
Publications highlight evolving legal responses to technology, with recent articles exploring social media litigation, undercover investigations, and AI in child exploitation cases. He has held visiting roles at institutions like Tilburg University and Chuo University, contributing to international discourse on tech-driven legal challenges.
