California Institute of Technology (Caltech)معرفی
Gregg W. Hallinan is a Professor of Astronomy and Director of the Owens Valley Radio Observatory (OVRO) at Caltech. He holds a B.Sc. from the National University of Ireland (2002) and a Ph.D. (2008). His research focuses on magnetic activity in stars, brown dwarfs, and exoplanets, using radio astronomy techniques such as Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) and low-frequency radio surveys. He leads projects studying stellar flares, auroral emissions in brown dwarfs, and developing new instruments like the Long Wavelength Array (LWA) to detect radio transients. His work bridges astrophysics and planetary science, aiming to understand magnetospheric processes in diverse celestial systems.
Research interests include:
- Magnetic fields in stars and planets
- Radio emissions from flare stars and brown dwarfs
- Search for exoplanetary magnetic fields via radio signals
- Transient radio source discovery
As OVRO Director, he oversees operations of radio telescopes and promotes observational astronomy initiatives. His contributions advance both observational infrastructure and theoretical understanding of cosmic magnetism.
