Dr Greg Vass is a Senior Lecturer at Griffith University's School of Education and Professional Studies and a member of the Griffith Institute for Education Research. His work focuses on the cultural politics of education, examining how institutional arrangements, power dynamics, and social justice intersect in curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessment practices. He is particularly concerned with Indigenous education and the implementation of culturally nourishing approaches in schooling systems.
- Key Projects:
- Culturally Nourishing Schooling (CNS) Project: A multi-site collaboration with the NSW Department of Education and Aboriginal Education Consultative Groups to transform schooling policies for Indigenous students.
- Curriculum Policy Study: Investigates embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges in Years 7-10 science and history curricula across Queensland and NSW.
- Influences: Draws from critical theorists like Paulo Freire, Henry Giroux, and Gloria Ladson-Billings to challenge educational inequities.
Vass advocates for dismantling systemic privileges in education and emphasizes localized, culturally responsive approaches over standardized practices. His research aligns with Griffith University's contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
