Greg Robin Smith is a Lecturer specializing in Shakespearean studies, Medieval history, and theatre education. He currently serves as Managing Director of the Washington Shakespearean Festival and teaches at Western Washington University (Bellingham), Skagit Valley College (Mt. Vernon), Seattle Central College, and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (University of Alaska Fairbanks). His career began with a BA in Theatre from Eastern Washington University (1977), leading to the founding of “A Knight’s Tour”, an interactive medieval educational program.
Smith’s research interests center on Shakespeare’s writing techniques, performance practices, and the intersection of history with theatrical art. His classes blend lectures, role-playing, and multimedia resources, including slide presentations and video analyses. He has authored over 3,000 sonnets and a seminal book on Shakespearean composition techniques.
His performance career includes roles as a Renaissance Faire participant, Benjamin Franklin impersonator for nonprofits, and musician. Student reviews praise his infectious enthusiasm and ability to make Shakespeare accessible through interactive methods.
