Greg Pope is a Professor in Earth and Environmental Studies at Montclair State University, part of the College of Science and Mathematics. He holds a PhD from Arizona State University and teaches courses in physical geography, environmental geology, and research methods. His research focuses on integrating earth sciences with human impacts, including stone conservation, soil/weathering processes, and environmental hazards. Pope has led projects on archaeological stone deterioration in Italy and Portugal, wildfire effects on soils, and glacial geology in New Jersey. His work is supported by NSF, NEH, and NJ DEP grants. He has advised numerous graduate students and collaborates internationally. Key affiliations include the Montclair State’s Center for Heritage and Archaeological Studies and the Association of American Geographers.
