Dr. Greg Harris is an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati's College of Engineering and Applied Science. His research program focuses on bioengineering solutions for nerve injuries through advanced biomaterials and tissue engineering approaches. The Harris Lab investigates cell-matrix interactions to develop therapeutic strategies for peripheral nerve and spinal cord regeneration.
Education:
- PhD in Chemical Engineering, University of South Carolina (2013)
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Iowa State University (2008)
Research interests include neural tissue engineering, smart biomaterials, extracellular matrix interactions, and bioelectronic interfaces. Current projects leverage piezoelectric materials for electrically active neural scaffolds that promote regeneration through mechanical and electrical cues.
Recent publications show consistent focus on Schwann cell responses to biomaterial properties, with increasing emphasis on piezoelectric stimulation and scaffold functionalization. Research integrates materials science, cell biology, and neural engineering principles.
Dr. Harris leads multiple federally funded projects from the NSF and DoD focused on next-generation nerve repair technologies. He mentors graduate students in biomedical engineering research and collaborates clinically to translate regenerative therapies.
