Greg Hagen is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary. He previously served as Associate Dean (Research) and Graduate Program Director within the same faculty. His expertise spans technology law, intellectual property, privacy law, and legal philosophy. Hagen is affiliated with the Institute for Security, Privacy and Information Assurance (ISPIA) at the University of Calgary.
Education: LL.B from Dalhousie University, LL.M (Technology Law) from the University of Ottawa, and a Ph.D. in the Philosophy of Science from the University of Western Ontario. He was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1999 and practiced corporate, securities, and technology law at Canadian national law firms before entering academia.
Research focuses on interdisciplinary legal issues at the intersection of technology and law, including smart contracts, DAO legal frameworks, encryption regulation, biosecurity, and internet governance. His work bridges legal theory with modern technological challenges in areas such as biotechnology and digital privacy.
