Dr. Greg Funston is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anatomical Sciences at Stony Brook University. As a Canadian palaeontologist, his research focuses on life history evolution through patterns of growth and tissue analysis in vertebrates, particularly dinosaurs and mammals. His work spans fieldwork in Alberta, Mongolia, and New Mexico, combined with advanced techniques like 3D modeling and synchrotron μCT scans.
- PhD and BSc from University of Alberta
- Former Banting Postdoctoral Fellow at Royal Ontario Museum (2022–24)
- Visiting Assistant Professor at University of California, Davis (2024–25)
- Newton International Fellow at University of Edinburgh (2020–22)
Dr. Funston's research integrates anatomy, palaeohistology, and geochemical analysis to reconstruct growth chronologies and evolutionary relationships. Notably, he discovered five new oviraptorosaur species, including the two-fingered Oksoko, and investigates maternal investment strategies in therian mammals using dental growth marks.
