Greg Beitel is a Professor at Northwestern University in the Department of Molecular Biosciences. His research focuses on the molecular genetics of organ morphogenesis, particularly using Drosophila as a model system to study epithelial tube development and CO2 sensing mechanisms in immune regulation.
- Research Interests: Genetic control of cell shape, epithelial tube-size regulation, hypercapnia effects on innate immunity, and evolutionarily conserved pathways
- Collaboration: Working with Dr. Peter Sporn on CO2-mediated immune suppression
- Methodology: Genetic screening, molecular biology, cell biological approaches, and RNAi techniques
Laboratory Highlights: Identified over 15 genes regulating tracheal tube size, developed Drosophila as a model for hypercapnic immune suppression, and discovered Zfh2 transcription factor's role in CO2 response.
Publications: Recent work includes genome-wide RNAi screens for CO2 response genes (2016), studies on nucleosome organization in Drosophila (2017), and investigations of ion transporters in junction formation (2009).
