Greet Cardon is a Professor in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care at Ghent University's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. With over 250 publications and extensive collaboration with researchers across Europe, Cardon leads significant research in physical activity, sedentary behavior, and obesity prevention across the lifespan. Key institutional affiliations include leadership roles in major European projects including Feel4Diabetes, ToyBox, Health CASCADE, and DE-PASS.
Cardon's research focuses on developing and evaluating public health interventions targeting physical activity promotion and sedentary behavior reduction across different age groups. Major research streams include family-based interventions for diabetes prevention, co-creation methodologies for health intervention development, and movement behavior epidemiology. The work spans children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, with particular emphasis on implementation science and real-world intervention effectiveness.
Analysis of recent publications reveals strong emphasis on digital health interventions, ecological momentary assessment methods, and co-creation approaches to intervention design. Key thematic areas include intergenerational physical activity programs, sedentary behavior reduction in older adults, school-based obesity prevention, and the development of implementation frameworks for public health interventions.
Cardon has supervised numerous PhD students including Janneke de Boer, Iris Maes, and Laura Maenhout, and maintains extensive collaborations with researchers across Europe, particularly with Ilse De Bourdeaudhuij (270 co-publications), Marieke De Craemer, and Delfien Van Dyck. Current research includes the 'Take a Walk with Your Brain' program for cognitive health in older adults and the 'Ages Get Active' intergenerational intervention.
