Gray Whaley is a tenured Associate Professor of History at Southern Illinois University Carbondale since 2006. He holds a PhD in History from the University of Oregon (2002). His research focuses on American Indians, the American West, Environmental History, and the early/modern United States. Key works include his 2010 monograph Oregon and the Collapse of Illahee and recent articles on tribal legal identities and genocide education.
