Grant W. Brown is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Toronto since 2011, with prior roles as Associate Professor (2004) and faculty member (1999). He earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from UCLA, studying DNA replication in C. fasciculata, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, investigating S-phase regulation in fission yeast.

- Ph.D., Molecular Biology, UCLA
- Postdoctoral Fellow, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
His research focuses on genome stability, DNA replication stress, and the DNA damage response in eukaryotic cells. Using Saccharomyces cerevisiae and mammalian models, his lab combines high-throughput functional genomics (genetic interaction screens, proteomics) with molecular biology to explore mechanisms ensuring genome fidelity, with implications for cancer, aging, and stem cell renewal.
He teaches advanced courses in biochemistry, including topics on DNA damage, cancer biology, and research projects in biochemistry. His lab at the Donnelly Centre (12th floor) emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative techniques like single-molecule analysis of DNA replication.
