Grant Knox is an Associate Professor of Voice, Director of Sarah Reese Lyric Theatre, and Vocal Area Coordinator at Furman University. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DM) from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music and Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees from the Eastman School of Music.
His professional engagements include performances with major opera companies such as the Cincinnati Opera, Chicago Opera Theater, and Maestro Lorin Maazel’s Castleton Opera Festival. He specializes in opera, musical theater, and concert repertoire, with notable performances of Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang, and Janáček’s The Diary of One Who Vanished. He is a proponent of new American music, collaborating with composers like Libby Larsen and Jake Heggie.
Knox’s recordings include cast albums for Albany Records, featuring works by Gilbert and Sullivan, Offenbach, and others. He teaches at SongFest, the premier U.S. art song festival, and has mentored students who pursue top conservatories and win national competitions. His teaching philosophy emphasizes vocal technique and artistic expression.
He received the Furman University Teaching Award (2016/17) and holds the Neyer Family Endowed Professorship in Music. His work bridges classical performance, pedagogy, and contemporary music innovation.
