Professor Grant Jarvie holds the Chair of Sport and is Founding Director of the Academy of Sport at the University of Edinburgh. He is also a Visiting Research Professor at the University of Toronto. His roles include Chair of East Renfrewshire Leisure and Culture Trust Board, Director of Hibernian Women's Football Club, and Director of Motherwell Football Club. Educated at the Universities of Exeter, Queen's, and Leicester, his career spans academia and sports industry leadership.
His research focuses on sport’s role in addressing societal challenges, including cultural diplomacy, environmental sustainability, and social inequality. He has secured over £15 million in research funding and authored over 200 publications. Notable works include The Jarvie Report on the Scottish Sporting Landscape and Sport, Culture and Society.
He advises governments and international bodies, including the Commonwealth Secretariat and Welsh Government, on sport policy. His awards include an Honorary Doctorate for international engagement and the Glenfiddich Literary Award. Supervising over 35 PhD students, he emphasizes global networks and impactful research.
