Grant Alan Burrier is an Associate Professor of Teaching at Worcester Polytechnic Institute's The Global School, affiliated with the Department of Social Science & Policy Studies. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of New Mexico and a B.A. from The University of the South: Sewanee. His research focuses on political economy, environmental policy, and Latin American studies, with a specialization in hydroelectric development, developmental states, and populism.
His work examines the socio-environmental impacts of infrastructure projects in Brazil and India, the political determinants of development policies, and the role of populism in shaping foreign policy. Key publications include analyses of hydroelectric dams’ ecological consequences and infrastructure investment strategies in Brazil. He actively contributes to popular media outlets like The Christian Science Monitor and World Politics Review.
Dr. Burrier is a member of the New England Council of Latin American Studies (NECLAS), the International Studies Association (ISA), and the Latin American Studies Association (LASA). He previously led study-abroad programs in Brazil, Cuba, Mexico, and Argentina, emphasizing global awareness and democratic citizenship in teaching.
