Professor Graham Lord holds the position of Senior Vice-President (Health & Life Sciences) at King’s College London, Executive Director of King’s Health Partners, and Chief Academic Officer at Guy’s & St Thomas’ and King’s College Hospital NHS Trusts. Previously, he served as Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health at the University of Manchester, and led the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre. He qualified in Medicine at Cambridge University and has held clinical posts at Oxford, the Hammersmith Hospital, and Imperial College. As a Medical Research Council (MRC) Clinician Scientist, he conducted postdoctoral research in immune cell biology, including a Visiting Fellowship at Harvard University. He established the Department of Experimental Immunology at King’s College London and directed the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) from 2012-2019.
His research focuses on immune tolerance, biomarker discovery, and precision medicine, with a particular emphasis on regulatory T cells, innate lymphoid cells, and microRNA-142. Key projects include the TRIBUTE trial investigating Treg-based therapies for Crohn’s disease, and genomic studies on kidney transplant outcomes. His work bridges basic immunology with clinical applications, leveraging technologies like scRNA-seq and spatial omics.
Lord has led collaborations with institutions like the Kenya-UK Strategic Health Alliance and contributed to landmark studies on cardiovascular disease, obesity, and transplant rejection. His lab’s innovations include developing gut-targeted Treg therapy and identifying genetic biomarkers for kidney disease. Recent achievements include a £35M donation to advance maternal and child health through AI partnerships, and a new cutting-edge scanner unveiled by UK Health and Science Secretaries in 2024.
