Dr. Mathew has spent over 30 years investigating immune responsiveness and tolerance in clinical organ transplantation. His work focuses on the immunological effects of donor bone marrow and hematopoietic stem cell infusions, differential susceptibility of regulatory T cells (Tregs) to immunosuppressive drugs, and the development of polyclonally/antigen-specifically expanded autologous Tregs for tolerance induction in transplantation, autoimmunity, and allergic diseases. He also employs bionanotechnology to address challenges in ischemic injuries and tolerance induction.
As Director of the Immune Monitoring Core, Dr. Mathew provides immune monitoring support for clinical trials across the CTC and other departments at Northwestern University. He is actively developing biomarkers for clinical transplant immunity and tolerance.
