Professor Graeme Zosky is Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Health at the University of Tasmania, leading the College of Health and Medicine. He holds a PhD from the University of Western Australia (2003) and an MBiostat from the University of Sydney (2010). His research focuses on respiratory and environmental health, with over $15.5M in research funding. Key areas include particulate matter effects, occupational lung diseases (e.g., engineered stone silicosis), and environmental smoke impacts on health.
Research highlights include work on coal dust toxicity, microplastic effects on marine species, and the health impacts of bushfire smoke on children. He has supervised 15 doctoral/master's students, including studies on microplastic pathology, dust-induced lung disease, and Antarctic medical challenges. Awards include the 2022 ACARP Research Industry Excellence Award for coal dust research.
Current grants include investigations into coal dust surface chemistry (Australian Coal Research Limited), engineered stone safety (Mining & Quarrying Committee), and air quality communication (NHMRC). His work bridges molecular biology to public health policy, with 140+ peer-reviewed publications and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Teaching responsibilities include coordinating the Bachelor of Medical Research, emphasizing hands-on research training in human health. He also advises on Antarctic health protocols and occupational safety regulations.
