Grace Skehan is a Lecturer in Indigenous Knowledges within the Department of Education at Charles Darwin University's Faculty of Arts and Society. She is also a PhD candidate and Higher Degree by Research (HDR) student, actively contributing to educational research focused on remote and very remote Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory.
Her research interests include:
- Indigenous Knowledges integration in education
- Culturally responsive teaching practices
- Aboriginal teacher representation in remote schools
- Curriculum development with linguistic diversity
Her work is deeply informed by her extensive professional experience across diverse educational settings, including remote schools, urban schools, Catholic education, and youth detention centers. She is particularly committed to systemic change in teacher education for First Nations communities.
Grace Skehan was awarded the Vice Chancellors' Teaching Award in 2025 as part of a collaborative team, recognizing excellence in teaching and educational innovation.
She is currently involved in a PhD-level research project titled Co-Designing Culturally Responsive Initial Teacher Education Programs for Aboriginal Students in Remote and Very Remote Northern Territory Communities, where she serves as a Student Investigator. This project emphasizes community-led design and case study methodologies in Indigenous education.
Grace holds a Diploma of Linguistics from Charles Darwin University and emphasizes the importance of family and community support in her personal and professional journey.
