Govind Menon is a Professor of Applied Mathematics at Brown University, where he has been since 2004. He holds editorial roles at journals including Applied Mathematics Letters, Journal of Nonlinear Science, and SIAM Journal of Mathematical Analysis. His research focuses on mathematical physics, particularly the interplay between dynamical systems, integrable systems, kinetic theory, and probability theory, with applications to fluid mechanics, materials science, and self-assembly. Menon received his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Brown University (2001), an MS in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Cornell (1996), and a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur (1994). He has been awarded the NSF Career Award (2008–2013) and served as a Clay Mathematics Institute Emissary (2000). His teaching includes courses on nonlinear dynamics, partial differential equations, and information theory.

Research Interests: Menon’s work spans pure and applied mathematics, including analysis, PDEs, dynamical systems, and collaborations with experimentalists in materials science. Recent efforts include studying disorder in physical models/numerical algorithms, connections between random matrix theory and number theory, and developing a mathematical theory for self-assembly processes. His funded research includes NSF grants focusing on turbulence, integrability, and dynamic scaling.

Grants & Advising: Current NSF funding includes a grant on turbulence and integrability (2014–2017). Past grants include studies on coarsening dynamics, self-assembly, and fluid interfaces. Labs/Teams: Collaborates with experimental groups on self-assembly projects, such as the design of self-folding polyhedra with David Gracias’ lab at Johns Hopkins University.
