معرفی
Professor Goutam Deo is a distinguished faculty member in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. His research focuses on heterogeneous catalysis and reaction engineering, with particular emphasis on CO2 utilization and catalyst development for sustainable energy applications.
Education:
- PhD from Lehigh University (Thesis Supervisor: Prof. Israel E. Wach)
- M.S. from University of Iowa
- B.Tech from IIT Kharagpur
Dr. Deo's research spans heterogeneous catalysis with current interests in CO2 utilization using supported metal-based catalysts. His work includes dry reforming, methanation, and methanol formation reactions. He is developing a single-step process for Karanja oil conversion and low-temperature ozone decomposition catalysts. His research combines experimental and computational techniques to understand and design catalysts, building on previous work in oxidative dehydrogenation of alkanes to alkenes.
His recent publications (2011-2014) focus on cobalt-based catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation, with particular attention to support materials (alumina, silica), metal loading effects, and promoter elements like iron. His work demonstrates expertise in catalyst synthesis, characterization, and reaction mechanism studies, particularly in the context of sustainable energy applications and carbon management.
Scientific Awards:
- First Prize for poster on 'Catalytic Ozone Decomposition' at Chemcon-2013
- Poster award at Materials for Energy 2013 conference
- Indian Oil Corporation Chair (2011-present)
- TOP25 Hottest Articles in Journal of Catalysis (2010)
- M H Shukla 2nd Prize, IIChE for best Technical Paper (CHEMCON 2008)
Professor Deo has mentored numerous graduate students who have co-authored publications with him. His research has been supported by prestigious fellowships and awards, including the Indian Oil Corporation Chair which has provided sustained funding for his work since 2011.
His laboratory at IIT Kanpur focuses on catalyst synthesis and characterization, employing both experimental and computational approaches to advance understanding of heterogeneous catalytic systems for energy and environmental applications.
