Gouri Prabhakar is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences at Purdue University. She holds a PhD in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Arizona (2014) and prior degrees in Physics. Her research focuses on aerosol-cloud interactions, climate impacts, and air quality, particularly investigating pollutants from wildfires, chemical spills, and microplastics. She teaches courses such as EAPS 521 (Atmospheric Chemistry) and EAPS 360 (Great Issues in Science and Society), emphasizing student-centered learning. Prabhakar collaborates on projects like analyzing the East Palestine train derailment's environmental effects and developing microplastic detection methods.
- Education: PhD (2014, Atmospheric Sciences, University of Arizona), MS (2012, Atmospheric Sciences, University of Arizona), MS (2007, Physics, Bangalore University), BS (2005, Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics, St. Joseph's College).
Research interests include: aerosol chemistry, particulate matter formation, and environmental monitoring. Recent work addresses wildfires in the Midwest and microplastic in situ detection. She has advised students like Joseph Robinson (now at University of Leeds) and Matthew Graber (University of Illinois).
