Dr. Goreti Ribeiro Morais serves as a Lecturer in Medicinal Chemistry at the Institute of Cancer Therapeutics within the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Bradford. She holds Professional Academic Tutor (PAT) responsibilities for MPharm students and delivers instruction across three Master's programs, integrating research expertise with clinical education.
Her academic foundation includes:
- Pharmacy degree from University of Coimbra
- PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry through joint program between University of Lisbon (Portugal) and Kyushu University (Japan)
Dr. Morais specializes in oncology-focused medicinal chemistry with emphasis on enzyme-targeted therapeutics. Her research program centers on developing polysialyltransferase inhibitors and prodrug systems activated by Cytochromes P450 and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), driving innovation in tumor-selective drug delivery. These projects have established critical collaborations with Stanford University and pharmaceutical partners including Incanthera and Ellipses Pharma, positioning her at the intersection of academic discovery and translational drug development.
As an educator and mentor, she has successfully co-supervised three PhD graduates (two in industry roles, one in academia) and currently guides one PhD candidate and two MSc students. Her research leadership extends to major funding initiatives:
- Yorkshire Cancer Research Programme grant (senior PDRA role since 2014)
- Incanthera-funded Doctoral Training Centre (DTC-ICT) where she serves as core faculty since 2019
Within the Institute of Cancer Therapeutics, Dr. Morais operates in a multidisciplinary environment where her medicinal chemistry expertise directly informs collaborative projects spanning target validation, compound optimization, and preclinical evaluation, with ongoing partnerships accelerating therapeutic candidates toward clinical application.
