Gordon Young is a Principal Lecturer in Design at the Sheffield Institute of Arts and serves as Regional and Global Engagement Lead for the Department of Art and Design at Sheffield Hallam University. He holds a role on the Department Leadership Team, providing academic and professional leadership. His research focuses on critical design, design for a circular economy, and extending product lifespan, with an emphasis on speculative and sustainable design practices. He has led curriculum development for product design programs and currently serves as an external examiner at two UK universities. His work bridges academic and professional design, engaging in consultancy projects with companies like Marks & Spencer and Gillette, as well as international collaborations with institutions in China and Taiwan. Key research outputs include studies on product lifespan and consumer attitudes toward maintenance.
