Gordon Wilmsmeier is an Associate Professor for Shipping and Global Logistics and Director of the Hapag-Lloyd Centre for Shipping and Global Logistics (CSGL) at the Kühne Logistics University (KLU) in Hamburg, Germany. He simultaneously holds the Kühne Professorial Chair in Logistics at the School of Management, Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia, and is an honorary professor of Maritime Geography at the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen, Germany.
His research interests span port governance, sustainable performance in maritime transport and ports, and decarbonization of logistics. With over 100 publications including book chapters, journal papers, and institutional publications, his work on climate change adaptation was cited in the IPCC report in 2022. His recent books include "Geographies of Maritime Transport" and "Maritime Mobilities."
Dr. Wilmsmeier's research reveals significant trends in port system evolution, governance challenges, and sustainability issues in maritime transport. His publications consistently address the intersection of market dynamics, environmental challenges, and institutional frameworks in the shipping industry. Recent work focuses on climate change adaptation, port transparency, and innovative logistics solutions like street-turn strategies for empty container management.

Prof. Wilmsmeier has held various leadership positions including Board of Directors of Fundación Conecta Logística in Chile, leader of the global Port Performance Research Network (PPRN), and member of the International Geographical Union (IGU) Transport & Geography Commission. He has advised numerous international organizations including UN-ECLAC, UNCTAD, World Bank, and various development banks. His extensive consultancy work across Europe and Latin America demonstrates his global impact in the field of maritime transport and logistics.
