Gordon Sayre is a Professor of English and Folklore at the University of Oregon's College of Arts and Sciences. His expertise spans Colonial American Literature, Environmental Humanities, and Indigenous Studies. He holds a PhD from SUNY Buffalo (1993) and an AB from Brown University (1988).
Research focuses on French colonial history, Native American ethnohistory, and the intersection of literature with environmental and automotive cultures. His notable works include The Indian Chief as Tragic Hero (2005) and translations like Lieutenant Dumont's Memoir (2012). Awards include MLA's Honorable Mention for Translation and the Richard Beale Davis Prize.
