Gorana Stepanić

Dr. Gorana Stepanić is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities in Pula, Croatia, specializing in Classical Philology and Neo-Latin literature. She holds a PhD from the University of Zagreb (2005) and focuses on Renaissance rhetoric, Croatian Neo-Latin poetry, and the cultural history of Dubrovnik. Her research explores Latin texts from Early Modern Croatia, including commentaries on Aristotle, Renaissance epistolary poetry, and manuscript traditions.

Teaching responsibilities include courses on Latin syntax, ancient history sources, and World literature. Her work bridges classical and early modern studies, with particular emphasis on Croatian authors like Nikola Vitov Gučetić and Pavao Ritter Vitezović. Stepanić has edited critical editions of neglected texts, such as Gučetić’s In primum librum Artis rhetoricorum Aristotelis commentaria (2023) and Vitezović’s verse epistles (2019). She investigates intertextuality, source citation practices in Renaissance commentaries, and the role of books in Dubrovnik’s intellectual networks.

Her research has been published in journals like Latin@ et Graeca and Colloquia Maruliana, covering topics from Latin metamorphosis poetry to legal texts owned by the Gundulić family. Stepanić’s interdisciplinary approach connects philology with cultural history, highlighting Croatia’s contributions to European humanist traditions.
