Dr. Gokhan Sonaer serves as the Department Chair of Economics and Finance, H.J. Halliwell Faculty Fellow in Finance, and Associate Professor of Finance at the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business, Duquesne University. He holds a Ph.D. in Finance from Virginia Tech, an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and dual M.S. and B.S. degrees in Civil Engineering from Middle East Technical University. Prior to academia, he worked as a Financial Analyst at Finansbank.
His research focuses on investments, corporate finance, market efficiency, and institutional investors, with notable contributions exploring herding behavior in hedge and mutual funds, the impact of executive compensation on product markets, and the dynamics of momentum strategies. His work has appeared in journals such as Journal of Banking and Finance, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, and European Journal of Finance.
Dr. Sonaer teaches undergraduate courses in Financial Markets and Institutions, International Financial Management, and Business Finance. His research highlights include examining institutional investor disagreement, industry-specific herding effects, and the role of employee satisfaction in corporate valuation. Awards include the H.J. Halliwell Faculty Fellowship in Finance.
