Gokce Basbug is an Assistant Professor of Human Resource Management at Durham University Business School. She previously held an Assistant Professor position at Sungkyunkwan University Graduate School of Business in South Korea. Her research focuses on work and employment issues, including job search behavior, unemployment dynamics, gender segregation in labor markets, and organizational health/safety. Basbug earned her Ph.D. from MIT Sloan School of Management and a BA from Istanbul University. She currently coordinates the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE) Network G on Labor Markets, Education, and Human Resources, and co-organizes the 14th International Labour and Employment Relations Association (ILERA) European Conference at Durham University.
Her research interests encompass interdisciplinary topics such as the psychological effects of long-term unemployment, gender disparities in labor markets, and the role of economic policies during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. She has contributed to policy-relevant studies on job search interventions, workplace safety hierarchies, and cross-country pandemic response effectiveness.
Basbug actively participates in academic networks, serving as a conference organizer for SASE 2025 (Montreal) and ILERA 2024 (Durham). Her work bridges labor economics, organizational behavior, and public policy, with a focus on practical solutions for labor market challenges.
