Godfre Leung is an Associate Professor of Art History at St. Cloud State University, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and the Department of Art History, Visual Art & Theory. He holds a PhD and MA from the University of Rochester, and a BA from Reed College. His research focuses on transnational postwar art, global contemporary art, and sound studies. He is currently developing a book manuscript, Playback: Perceptual Attention in the Age of Digital Audio, which examines sound-based art and digital media’s perceptual impact.

His work bridges critical theory and curatorial practice, with recent publications in Art Journal, Panorama, The Soundtrack, and Yishu: Journal of Contemporary Chinese Art. He has contributed to exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art (NY) and Walker Art Center, including co-editing a special issue on East Asian art for InVisible Culture (2008–2010).
- Curatorial Roles: Curatorial consultant for the Walker Art Center’s International Pop exhibition (2015), curator of Barbara Held and Benton C Bainbridge: Pausa (2021).
Leung is co-founder of the Untitled Criticism Workshop, a free community initiative in Minneapolis fostering art criticism. He received the 2018 Minnesota Emerging Writers’ Grant, recognizing his contributions to literary and art writing.
