Glynda A. Hull holds the Elizabeth H. and Eugene A. Shurtleff Chair in Undergraduate Education at the University of California, Berkeley's School of Education. A recipient of the UC Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award, she teaches undergraduate, graduate, and teacher education courses focused on literacy and media, with research dedicated to improving K-12 education through literacy, language, and technology integration.
Her educational background includes a PhD in English with a concentration in Research on Writing from the University of Pittsburgh.
Hull's research spans 22 interdisciplinary domains including adolescence, adult development, after-school programs, alternative schooling, arts in education, at-risk youth, cultural studies, educational media, information technology, international education, learning, literacy, minorities, school and non-school learning contexts, school to work, school-university collaboration, service learning, technology in schools, urban schooling, critical race/class/gender studies, learning sciences, and social research methodologies. Her work consistently bridges in-school and out-of-school learning through digital media applications, emphasizing equity for diverse populations and settings.
Her scientific contributions have been honored with the following award:

Hull has secured extensive research funding from U.S. government agencies (including the Department of Education) and private foundations. Her projects encompass California-based after-school programs for K-12 youth emphasizing digital media; international research in India transforming girls' schooling; and collaborative initiatives in Norway, South Africa, and India developing global social networking projects for youth. Current work focuses on innovative online learning spaces and global school phenomena, supported by community-school-university partnerships aimed at systemic educational improvement.
She maintains active international collaborations and ongoing research into digital learning environments and global educational networks.
