Glenna Joyce-Welsko is the Distilling Educational Coordinator at the James B. Beam Institute for KY Spirits, part of the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment at the University of Kentucky. She collaborates with Michael Voils and Freddie Noe to develop whiskey education programs.
- B.A. in Biochemistry and Exercise Science, Skidmore College
- M.S. in Food Science, University of Kentucky
Her work bridges distilling expertise and education, focusing on training future beverage industry professionals through certificate programs and apprenticeships. Prior experience includes hands-on distilling at Upstate Distilling in New York, producing bourbon, rye whiskey, vodka, and apple brandy. Joyce’s unique background combines academic rigor with practical industry knowledge.
She is based at the Beam Institute’s facility in Lexington, KY, and actively engages in curriculum development and outreach for distilling education.
