Professor Glenn Salkeld is an Honorary Fellow at the University of Wollongong (UOW), affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences. Previously, he served as Head of the Sydney School of Public Health at the University of Sydney from 2007–2016, during which the school achieved top international rankings in public health. He holds a PhD in Public Health (University of Sydney, 2000) and has over 30 years of expertise in health economics, with a focus on screening, diagnostic test evaluation, and multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA). His work includes pioneering the application of MCDA in cancer screening and treatment choices, contributing to over 100 peer-reviewed papers and 6,000 citations (Google Scholar).
Educational background: Ph.D. in Medicine (Public Health, University of Sydney, 1995–2000), Master of Public Health (University of Sydney, 1993), Graduate Diploma in Health Economics (University of Tromsø, 1991), and Bachelor of Business (Kuring-Gai College of Advanced Education, 1987).
Research interests span health economics, MCDA applications in healthcare decision-making, pharmaceutical policy, and equitable access to cancer treatments. He has led major grants totaling over $25 million, including NHMRC and ARC projects. Notable contributions include co-founding the Surgical Outcomes Research Centre and advising the WHO on essential medicines.
Leadership roles include Executive Dean of UOW’s Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, emphasizing social change through initiatives like the Early Start Centre. Awards include the NHMRC training fellowship (1987), the first awarded in health economics. Current work focuses on decision aids for patient-centered care and evaluating palliative care models.
