Glenn S. Gerhard, MD, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Medical Genetics and Molecular Biochemistry at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, Temple University. He also holds a professorship in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and is the Joseph and Rebecca Goodfriend Endowed Chair in Genetics, reflecting his leadership and scholarly impact in genetics research.
His research interests focus on the genetics of metabolic, cardiovascular, and neurodegenerative diseases, including obesity, diabetes, neurodegeneration, and cancer. He investigates complex traits and human disease using animal models to understand disease mechanisms and genetic predispositions.
Dr. Gerhard has contributed expert commentary to public health media, such as providing insight to SELF magazine on genetic screenings for heart disease, demonstrating his engagement in science communication and public education.
