معرفی
Professor Glenn King is a NHMRC Leadership Fellow and Group Leader at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience, University of Queensland. He holds an Affiliate Professor position in the School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences. His research focuses on harnessing venom peptides from arthropods to develop drugs for neurological disorders (e.g., chronic pain, epilepsy, stroke) and environmentally friendly insecticides. He has authored over 400 publications and leads a multidisciplinary team of researchers and students.
Education: BSc (University of Sydney), PhD (University of Sydney).
Research interests span venom-based drug discovery, ion channel modulation, and pest control solutions. Key achievements include developing Hi1a, a stroke neuroprotective agent, and identifying novel insecticidal peptides. His work bridges basic science and translational medicine, with active collaborations in drug development and toxicology.
Current grants include NHMRC Investigator Grants for venom-to-drug translation and MRFF funding for cardiovascular therapies. He supervises multiple PhD students and has mentored over 50 researchers. His lab is part of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Innovations in Peptide and Protein Science.
Scientific awards: NHMRC Leadership Fellow (2021–2028). His research also involves structural studies of venom peptides and their mechanisms of action, with applications in imaging and diagnostics.
