Dr. Glenn J. Scheyd is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Nova Southeastern University's College of Psychology. He has been a faculty member at NSU since 2007 and teaches both undergraduate and graduate level courses in the department, as well as undergraduate courses for the Farquhar Honors College.
Dr. Scheyd earned his educational degrees from the University of New Mexico (Ph.D. and M.S.) and the University of Texas (B.A.). His primary academic focus centers on evolutionary psychology with specific expertise in human mate selection and attractiveness perception.
Dr. Scheyd's research primarily investigates the factors that impact judgments of physical attractiveness, with specific attention to evolutionary psychology perspectives. His work encompasses human mate selection, individual differences in attractiveness perception, and intrasexual competition. He has also explored topics related to altruism from an evolutionary psychology framework, as demonstrated in his "Shark Chats" presentation.
As an active educator, Dr. Scheyd teaches courses including Introduction to Psychology, Human Sexuality, Social Psychology, and specialized courses in Evolutionary Psychology at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He provides mentorship opportunities through Independent Study in Psychology courses.
