Glenn Howe serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Forest Ecosystems & Society at Oregon State University, where he also directs the Pacific Northwest Tree Improvement Research Cooperative (PNWTIRC). He holds additional affiliation with the National Science Foundation Center for Advanced Forestry Systems.
Research expertise focuses on forest genetics and genomics, with specific interests in: (1) Breeding strategies for climate-resilient forests; (2) Genecological variation across environmental gradients; (3) Physiological adaptations to climatic stress; and (4) Assisted migration frameworks. His work integrates molecular tools with field-based provenance trials to understand adaptive potential in tree populations.
Teaching responsibilities include MNR 538 (Adapting Forests to Climate Change) and FS 521 (Natural Resources Research Planning). Publication themes consistently address genetic-based climate adaptation strategies, with recent work expanding into transcriptomic analysis of dormancy processes and innovative seed orchard designs. Long-term research examines how landscape heterogeneity shapes genetic differentiation in temperate tree species.
