Glenn Adelson is an Associate Professor of Environmental Studies at Lake Forest College, where he also serves as Curator of the Elizabeth Teter Lunn Herbarium. He holds a PhD in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology from Harvard University, a JD from the University of Michigan Law School, and a BA in English Literature (with Honors) from the University of Michigan. His research integrates ecology, conservation biology, and environmental humanities, with a focus on interdisciplinary approaches to biodiversity, restoration ecology, and the intersection of literature and environmental science.
Adelson’s academic contributions include co-editing Environment: An Interdisciplinary Anthology (Yale UP, 2008) and authoring works on conservation priorities and evolutionary biology. His recent articles bridge ecological studies and literary analysis, such as examining Robert Frost’s poetry through an environmental lens. He has delivered invited talks on interdisciplinarity in environmental education and textbook innovation.
Adelson has received numerous accolades, including the Joseph Levenson Teaching Award (Harvard) and recognition for student thesis advising. His courses span topics like flora of the Great Lakes, endangered species policy, and poetry’s relationship to nature. The Herbarium under his curation supports field-based learning and restoration projects.
