Gkritzalis Stefanos is a Professor in the Department of Digital Systems at the University of Piraeus (since 2019) and Director of the Master’s Program in “Law and ICT.” He serves as a Member of the Independent Authority for the Protection of Privacy in Communication (ADAE) and as Alternate Member of the National Commission for Human Rights (EEDA). Previously, he was Rector of the University of the Aegean (2014–2018), Deputy Secretary-General at the Ministry of Administrative Reform and E-Government (2009–2012), and Professor at the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications, University of the Aegean (2002–2019).
His research focuses on cybersecurity, communication systems security, privacy, and the intersection of law with ICT. He has supervised 17 successful PhD theses and over 90 MSc/Master’s and 160 undergraduate projects. His work has been cited over 10,000 times, yielding an h-index of 54 and i10-index of 170 (Google Scholar).
He holds editorial roles in 35 journals, including serving as Area Editor for the top-tier IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials. He has chaired over 50 international conferences and reviewed proposals for major funding bodies like the ERC, Swiss NSF, and others. His contributions include 14 authored/edited books, 37 book chapters, and 329 peer-reviewed publications.
He actively advises on EU projects (e.g., Horizon 2020) and serves on national/international boards, including legal and privacy advisory roles for governments. His work bridges technological innovation with ethical, legal, and societal implications.
