Giuseppe Porzio (born 1976) is an Associate Professor of History of Modern Art (L-ART/02) at the University of Naples L'Orientale. Since 2024, he has served as the coordinator of the Master's Degree in Humanities and Digital Technologies (LM-43R). He maintains additional academic affiliations as a member of the Doctoral School in History of Art at Sapienza University of Rome and the Scientific and Educational Council of the Interuniversity Consortium ICoN - Italian Culture on the Net.
His institutional engagements include membership on scientific committees for the Palazzo Reale in Naples and the Pio Monte della Misericordia. He contributes to scholarly discourse as a member of the editorial boards for the art history series "Custodi della memoria" (Guardians of Memory) and the Annals of the Giuseppe and Margaret De Vito Foundation for the History of Modern Art in Naples.
Porzio's research centers on 16th- to 18th-century painting in central and southern Italy, with particular emphasis on naturalistic movements and foreign influences. His scholarly work demonstrates deep engagement with Caravaggism and its international diffusion, especially through the work of Jusepe de Ribera in Naples. His methodological approach combines archival research with close visual analysis, contributing significantly to understanding artistic lineages and workshop practices in early modern Italy.
His recent scholarly output (2022-2025) reveals increasing attention to cross-cultural artistic exchanges between Italy and other European centers, particularly Spain and France. His publications on Caravaggio's southern Italian period, Valentin de Boulogne, and Velázquez's connections to Naples demonstrate his expanding research interests in international artistic networks and the transmission of naturalistic painting techniques across Europe.
