Giulio Zanella is a Full Professor of Economics at the University of Bologna's Department of Economics, serving as Director of the Second Cycle Degree in Economics and Public Policy. He holds a PhD from the University of Siena (2005) and an MSc from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2006). Previously, he served as Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of California-Santa Barbara (2009) and Professor at the University of Adelaide (2018-2020). His research focuses on labor economics, social economics, and applied econometrics, with notable contributions to policy evaluation, historical economic analysis, and social interactions.
His work spans topics including labor market policies, the impact of daycare on child development, the effects of marijuana legalization on crime, and historical studies on anti-fascism and tax evasion. He has published in top journals such as the Journal of Political Economy and Journal of Public Economics.
Zanella’s research also explores intergenerational dynamics, such as the effects of grandchildren on grandparents’ labor supply and the implications of bequest tax reforms. He is an Associate Editor of the European Economic Review. Office hours are held weekly on Wednesdays at 4pm.
